Product information from ProductWiki made available as Linked Data

News

The first release of productdb.org is now live. The data is based on a crawl of ProductWiki performed over the 11th and 12th August 2009. This first conversion contains product names, list prices, images, alternate names, reviews and links to external sites represented using a blend of GoodRelations, FOAF and OpenVocab. The product categorisation scheme has been converted using SKOS.

What is this?

This is a Linked Data view of ProductWiki a resource for free, unbiased product reports written by a dedicated community. ProductDB extracts structured information from ProductWiki and makes this information freely available on the Web. ProductDB provides Linked Data URIs for products and allows you to explore and construct sophisticated queries over product information. ProductWiki is open content, which means anybody can use the information in any way they want to, commercial or otherwise, as long as they give credit to ProductWiki as the source.

What kind of data can I find here?

ProductWiki contains information on over 20,000 products including prices, images, alternate names, categorisations, reviews, pros and cons and links. We crawl ProductWiki pages and convert the information to Linked Data, making it available via productdb.org. Some example Linked Data URIs from the ProductDB data set are listed below:

How can I update the data?

Head over to ProductWiki and make your contribution. Your changes will be included in productdb.org automatically next time we crawl ProductWiki.

Can I query the data?

The data is hosted in the Talis Platform which provides query and search facilities. There is a public SPARQL endpoint which can be used to query the entire dataset. The Talis Platform provides a number of other services including free-text search and faceting.
